The Grand Chancellor is the notary of the Order, of which he directs the Clerk; he countersigns all the acts and documents as second signatory; he keeps updated the list of decorated, he causes to be published at the expense of the Order the yearbook of the Knights and Dames, he preserves with due caution copies of the personal files; he updates the files about disciplinary and economic measures. He is chosen from among the Knights and Dames of Justice. He assists as the first lay collaborator the Sovereign Grand Master, which replaces and represent if he is unable or prevented.
